HOTHOUSE
The London Film School & Skillset have announced the participants for HOTHOUSE, their new professional atelier for feature film development, focussed on writers and directors preparing ‘signature’ feature films, i.e. distinctive work aimed at launching strongly inflected film careers. They are:
- Nicholas Abrahams
- Henry Darke & Harry Wootliff
- Bille Eltringham
- Dima Hamdan
- Felix Harrison
- Jonathan Romney
- Jessica Townsend
- Kanchi Wichmann
The Film Makers have been selected from a range of creative backgrounds. Between them they have already achieved considerable success within the fields of theatre, music, TV and journalism, as well as cinema. They were chosen from among 70 applicants and nominations. By building on these strong foundations HOTHOUSE will have an emphasis on the craft of creative development, whilst fostering a culture of collaboration and a sense of community.
Through a combination of peer discussions, engagement with experienced filmmakers, case studies and dialogue with the marketplace, the nine writers will develop feature films, each with package and finance plan, ready for the market. HOTHOUSE has been created by LFS senior lecturer and award-winning screenwriter, Margaret Glover, in consultation with LFS Director and producer, Ben Gibson, with an advisory group of producers Chris Collins (My Summer of Love, Brick Lane) and Kate Ogborn (The Unloved, One for the Road), producer and writer Peter Ettedgui (Kinky Boots, Unmade Beds), development executive and writer-director Justin Trefgarne (Unborn, Life:XP) and writer-director Udayan Prasad (My Son the Fanatic, Gabriel & Me).
Ben Gibson comments, “The HOTHOUSE structure is vital to this moment in British filmmaking. Helping to illuminate and encourage distinctive professional talent has always been the role of LFS; this scheme – outside our job as full-time trainers – will build on that culture and on everyone’s idea of how film schools can contribute to the industry.”
