"3 WASHES" WINS AN AWARD IN FLORIDA

Yasmina Solanes (C. 149) graduation film "3 WASHES" has won Best Romantic Comedy at the film festival "ROMANCE IN A CAN" held in Surfside, Florida, USA on 9-14th February 2008. Yasmina has won a monetary award and the School is getting a trophy.

REBECCA DAVIES'S SHORT WINS BAFTA CYMRU

Rebecca Davies, our Skillset Co-ordinator, last summer produced a short film "OWL CREEK BRIDGE" (director: John-Giwu Amu) for My Shout Productions and it has won the BAFTA CYMRU AWARD this year (May) for Best Short Drama. Well done to all concerned.

"RUTH" DOCUMENTARY WINS AWARD IN ITALY

Michael Frantzis 3rd term 156/3/C film "Ruth" has won Best Documentary Award (Category C, Documentaries produced by Research Institutes, Schools, Universities, Academies) at the "Vedere la Scienza Festival", Milano, Italy in April 2008. They say in the email "The film was well received both by the Jury and by the public at the screening". Michael will be invited to the award ceremony which happens at the Opening Session of the 2009 festival.

Update:
True Colours picked up a "Special Mention of the Jury" at Corto in Bra festival, Italy .The film has played in several festivals already in 2008 and the next in the UK is the Hull International Film Festival (April 15 - 20) where it is not only in the competition but also has been selected by Simon Ellis to be part of his Carte Blanche Retrospective Master class. Quite the honor as he is the UK's leading young talent.
As well, True Colours will be playing at the Short Film Corner in Cannes this year. As a resident at Cinefondation is was invited and automatically entered into the competition...love the French :-)

Who will be at Cannes? I will be there for the whole festival. It would be great to connect with LFS people.

Remi Borgeaud (C. 154) graduation film "Un Riff para Lazaro" won the first prize "Zizzola d'oro" at the International Short Film Festival of Bra (Italy) in the Shorts and Music competition. 12-18 March 2008

GABRIEL VALLEJO WINS AN AWARD FOR HIS SCREENPLAY

Gabriel Vallejo (MA Screenwriting 2006/07) has just won Best Comedic Short (US$2,500) for his screenplay A DELIGHTFUL DISCOVERY at the prestigious BlueCat Screenwriting Lab Short Screenplay Awards in Los Angeles. The were 46 Short Screenplay Finalists.

JOHN WALSH'S CHANNEL 4 SERIES HAS WON A BAFTA NOMINATION AND AN AWARD

John Walsh C.107 series 1 of his Channel 4 Series DON'T MAKE ME ANGRY was nominated for a BAFTA in 2006 and now his series 2 has won a World Award at the New York Festivals 2008 International TV Broadcasting Awards under category Young Adult Special. These two series are documentaries about teenage anger.

"BOTCHED" WINS AT NEW YORK CITY HORROR FILM FESTIVAL

Chris (Kit) Ryan (C. 128) feature film "BOTCHED" has just won Best Feature at The New York City Horror Film Festival in October and his actor Stephen Dorff received the Best Actor Award.

Directed by Kit Ryan, starring Stephen Dorff, Jaime Murray, Janie Foreman and shot in London.

Synopsis: And you thought you were unlucky? During a heist in Russia, a professional thief (Dorff) finds himself dealing with twin serial killers, insane hostages, double-crossing psycho Russian hardmen, and the real possibility of a horrible death.

Release date for both USA and UK is February 2008.

EMILY HARRIS (C. 141) IS REALLY DOING WELL....SEE BELOW

Emily Harris C.141 was Co-producer and Editor on a feature documentary entitled "TOVARICH, I AM NOT DEAD" which had its UK premiere this October. The film was directed by Stuart Urban (double BAFTA winner) and is nominated for Best Feature Documentary at this year's Raindance Festival. It has already been winning awards around the world including the Grand Prix at Biograph Film Festival in Italy and Best Documentary and Audience Award at Accolades in Los Angeles.

"THREE TOWERS" has also won 2 more awards (that's 3 so far) which Emily made with her husband Yoni Bentovin (C. 137) and they are now in post-prodution with their first feature fiction film "THINGS TO SEE WHEN YOU'RE NOT LOOKING".

3 washes won the Concurs de Curtmetratges Video Jove de Alella 2006 in Catalonia, March 2007 unfortunately everything was written in Catalan.

BARNEY ELLIOTT GETS INTO CINEFONDATION - THE RESIDENCE plus TRUE COLOURS continuues to do well.

I don't know if you have heard of the organization that is part of Cannes called Cinefondation. Well if you have you know what I am talking about, if you haven't well, great news: I had my interview in Paris this past Friday and I was one of the 6 writer / directors to be selected for THE RESIDNECE which starts on October 1st through mid Febuary. It is a writing Fellowship where they put us in a large flat in Paris together and pay us 800 Euro / month to continue with the feature script that we submitted which we will then pitch at the end of January at the Cinemart (Rotterdam Film Festival).

I am so excited and honored at this opportunity as the possibilities are huge if I play my cards right.

True Colours it is continuing to play at many festivals. It has been nominated for Best British Short at the Edinburgh Film Festival which I will travel to. I have no idea how many they have nominated in this category but it still sounds great :-)

MORE FESTIVAL NEWS FROM YONI BENTOVIN AND EMILY HARRIS

Yoni Bentovin C. 137 and Emily Harris C.141. Their independent short film which they produced and directed together is doing very well at festivals and winning more awards. It's writers just won the Camera D'or at Cannes.

Also a feature documentary that Emily co-produced and edited last year, "TOVARISCH" (I'm not Dead) (www.Tovarisch.net) just won the Grand Prize at the Biograph Film Festival in Italy.

They have just finished shooting their first fiction feature "Things to See When You're not Looking" and are now in post- production with it... they say they will keep us posted.

PAZ FABREGA WINS BEST DIRECTION IN RUSSIA
