“Ian Neil's extensive knowledge of music is legendary. His expertise in researching tracks and handling music clearances, in addition to his strong ties with all the major and independent record labels and publishers, inevitably makes him the first port of call.” Nyree Pinder, Hot House Music

Introduction

How does a piece of music get into a film? What are the considerations for using pre-existing tracks versus specially commissioned scores? How do you find the right track, the right composer? How much does it all cost and what steps are necessary to ensure it’s all done legally?

In this new 1-day workshop, leading UK Music Supervisor Ian Neil explores the complexities of placing music on a film.

The programme will include a screening of JOE STRUMMER: THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN (dir. Julien Temple | 2007), just one of over 50 features Ian has supervised during his varied career. Participants will have the opportunity to put their questions to Ian after the screening.

Open to all filmmakers, this workshop would be of particular use to producers, directors and post-production, as well as media lawyers and music composers.
