“I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It was informative, contemporary and exposed me to much more of the food chain than I have access to in my current role.” Tessa Paine, participant March 2009.

Do you know how your project fits into the marketplace, and what practical things can you do to ensure a greater chance of success? Do you know how to make films, but have no idea of how to sell, market and distribute them?

In this 2 Day intensive workshop, industry expert Mia Bays presents an A-Z guide to the current distribution landscape, including:

  • Expert industry guests
  • Case studies of recent and forthcoming films
  • Extensive handouts on the facts, figures and tricks of the trade

Ideal for producers, writers, directors and other film professionals.

Previous guests/sessions have included:

Key UK sales agent Piers Nightingale (Head of Development, Highpoint) to discuss how the international sales sector works, how festivals platforms can help and hinder, what sales agents look for in filmmakers, and what the future might look like for this sector.

Andrew Woodyatt (Head of Marketing, Revolver) to discuss new distribution and release models (having worked with Mia on MUM AND DAD and upcoming FREESTYLE) from his own birds eye view of the UK market place and audience.

Josh Appignanesi (Director, THE INFIDEL) to discuss how a filmmaker best participates in the sales and distribution process, whether learning about this area impacts on his work and how, and how best to manage PR and ‘selling’ your work and yourself.

Alex Stolz (Deputy Head of Exhibition and Distribution, the UK Film Council)
to discuss our digital future. New distribution models, what the future might look like and what we all need to be thinking about now in order to take advantage of this climate of change.

Jason Wood (leading cinema booker, Curzon Cinema Group) on how exhibition works, what he is looking for in a film for his sites, what impact 3D and special events are having at his sites and how his job works in the bigger picture

Fee: £220.00 (includes networking drinks)
