Introduction
This workshop was a module of the 2009 Fast Forward Programme. Fast Forward is a career focused programme for industry professionals looking to develop their skills to the next level. Click here for more details.
An intensive 7 day seminar, based around a detailed case study, which tracks the financing, pre-production, shoot, post-production and delivery of a UK based low budget feature film (with a negative cost under €3M/£1.8M).
The workshop takes a detailed look at the producer's role in the management of a low budget feature - from preparing breakdown, schedule and budget (using EP standard industry software) to crew and cast negotiations and contracts, legal and union issues, effective pre-production, managing financiers and commissioning editors, inter-departmental management and liaison on set, cost control and reporting and crisis management down to post production scheduling, the delivery list and the final audit.
It will include presentations from the Producer and where possible other crew (e.g.1st Assistant) of the case study film, a screening of the film, and two days of intensive software training. Participants will be asked to imaginatively solve real problems on the film, and shown how the problems were resolved in the real case. They will also be asked to generate paperwork for the film, breaking down scenes and budgeting elements before being presented with the real paperwork.
This workshop is directed towards Production office grades, script editors and others who aim to take on more comprehensive producing responsibilities on independent films.
The course uses a case study of a low budget feature and skills taught are transferable to bigger, more 'industrial' features as well as micro-budget independent projects.
The project is a workshop held in-house at the LFS.
Fee: £360.00 (all fees include a Skillset subsidy, therefore this course is not eligible for individual Skillset bursaries)
