An opportunity for actors and film-makers to spend an intensive week developingawareness of filmed performance, from both sides of the fence –
- How does screen acting differ from stage performance?
- What should a director expect from an actor?
- What should an actor expect from a director?
- How does a director prepare a scene for filming, and how does this affect performance?
The week will cover the stages of preparation where actor and director meet – audition, rehearsal, blocking, camera rehearsal, as well as on-set directing procedure, wherecommunication and collaboration are crucial.
In addition to a number of presentations and workshops, the week will feature thepreparation and filming of scenes, including a reversal of roles, where actors will directfilm-makers acting.
The goal of the course is to provide a thorough grounding in directing actors for camera, and in what acting for camera entails. By spending some time on the other side of thefence, participants will develop a greater awareness of what is required of them in aprofessional environment.
