Term Dates for the next academic year are published towards the end of the Summer Term

Please apply by 1st October 2008 for the Spring 2009 term (12th Jan 2009).

A new MA Filmmaking Course starts each term, so it is possible to enrol for entry in September, January or May. All candidates who wish to apply for entry must complete an Official Application Form, Reference Form. With this application they must submit a script for a short film about three minutes in length, consisting of approximately twenty to thirty shots. Each shot must be illustrated by a sketch or photograph of not less than 6cm by 8cm in size. All work on such scripts must be the original work of the candidates. Please enclose a personal statement of not more than 750 words. This should include an account of why you think you are suitable for the course and how it might support your future plans.

Any experience in photography, music, theatre, video, sound recording, architecture, painting, sculpture, graphics etc. is also valuable and should be detailed. When attending an interview at the School, or submitting their application from abroad, all candidates should send or bring with them any examples of their film, video, photography, art or literary work. Please note that submitted work should be on VHS or DVD in any format.

Candidates resident in the United Kingdom are required to attend for an interview. Candidates resident abroad should make themselves available for interview in the event that they visit the United Kingdom and intend to submit, or have already submitted, an application. They may be interviewed by telephone.

Minimum qualification for an application to be considered are a three year university degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant area.

The average age of students is in their middle or late twenties, but the range is great and we welcome applications from older students.

The need to follow and understand the intensive course of lectures, and the high pressure of group work make it imperative that all students must have a satisfactory knowledge of the English language.

  • Evidence of such knowledge would be:
  • Minimum TOEFL at grade 550
  • Minimum IELTS with a score of 6 and no element below 5.5.
  • Minimum Cambridge Proficiency Grade C
  • Other evidence of spoken or written fluency.

Acceptances are conditional on a suitable knowledge of English. Students may be refused entry on presenting themselves if their command of English is considered to be insufficient. Students so refused entry will be invited to attend a language school and, after three months, will be entitled to enrol, provided that by then they have reached the required standard.

The London Film School reserves the right to terminate the studies of, and exclude from the School, anyone it considers unsuitable to continue with the course.

Copyright:
Copyright in all films made at the London Film School remains the property of the School. Films are produced under contracts which allow for industry standard payments to participating actors and crew in case of any commercial exploitation, although it is usually impossible to extend this arrangement to cover pre-recorded and published music. The School strongly encourages producers and directors to work with composers to create original scores.

Although LFS retains copyright, revenues from exploitation can be distributed in line with outside production nd investment in Sixth Term films, which can effectively be 'co-produced.' Students may buy married prints of films on which they have worked (at a charge which includes negative cutting, sound transfer) or they may obtain video copies. They will be required to sign a licence agreement with the School, under the terms of which such prints or videos purchased may be used only for private showing and not for any commercial use.
