My name is Naruna Kaplan de Macedo, I am French from a Brazilian and American background I graduated in December 2002 from the London Film School.

Why did I choose the LFS? After all I could have gone to the French school FEMIS or even to an American course or university. I chose the LFS for London, which I was very curious of, and for their promise to film, film and film again.

The idea of spending three years studying the language of film without getting my hands on a camera bored me senseless, and I was grateful for the LFS course to be all about DOING.

At the same time, if there is definitely not enough theory each and every teacher, one way or another pushes you to explore this or that author or filmmaker in relationship to what you yourself do or want to do. This is one of many advantages of being in such a small, such intense course.

Whatever you want to do in the world of film, you will work each term on at least a film. Quickly, however, you will find yourself working on other term's projects. I myself, whilst at the school directed four films, art directed four films and promos, had a go at producing (my own films, and other groups'), focus pulled, camera operated...

As I see it, if you want to make film in any sort of capacity, even if You're not really sure of which LFS is a strong, very demanding course where you will get to meet friends which you will go on making film for the rest of your life.

with them for the graduation project and beyond.

Our graduation project was very much in the spirit of our favourite LFS term, the second term where a group of seven to eight students work for a week, making a film a day, each working on each other's film in various capacities. One day you're the director, next day, the photographer, the next a focus puller, etc...

Together with six other students, two DOPs and four other directors, we made a feature length film on the FIVE SENSES. Each director wrote and directed a segment of the film, and the Dips shared the photography and camera work.v

Because each of us was from a different country, we decided to play that aspect of the film up, and film in our home countries, and so we travelled as much as the budget could allow it, and our savings permitted... And worked for each other in Chile, New York city, Paris, London, Wales...

The result is a 110minute film, which held its promise, at least we hope...!

I am now between London and Paris, trying to work out how and where to do another short film before the next big thing. Meanwhile, I am doing a documentary in Africa for a French organisation.
