About

Facilities

The London Film School building was previously a warehouse, and has a rough workshop atmosphere which can be exciting, but is not academic and certainly not luxurious. We offer guided tours around the school on Thursday afternoons throughout the term which includes a chance to look at some student films. Facilities at the LFS include:

Studios
Two studios equipped with lighting rigs are available for the 35mm exercises, as well as a rehearsal studio, used also for drama and script workshops.

Using Super America at LFS

Cinemas
Projection facilities are available in two cinemas for 16mm, 35mm and Video.

Editing
The LFS editing rooms are equipped with analogue16mm and 35mm Steenbecks and Picture/Sound synchronisers. There are 8 off-line nonlinear Avid suites, as well as 14 iMacs with Final Cut and Avid Media Composer, and Avid Symphony for image and sound finishing on digital formats.

Sound
Production sound is recorded on Nagra V digital hard drive recorders. There is a full range of modern microphones, including Micron radio mics. and stereo mics. used to record sound for Dolby SR post production on Protools 24 work stations.

A still photography darkroom is equipped for student use. Personal 35mm still cameras are necessary. Light meters are available at the school, although those students who are particularly interested in photography are encouraged to purchase their own and the school can usually arrange a discount.

Extranet
Using the Extranet students are able to view, download and print technical manuals, syllabuses, course descriptions, forms, legal agreements, school regulations and other documents.

Library
The school library, run by Chrissy Bright, keeps and documents the school’s productions, producing video copies and, for certain films, showprints. The school shows work at over 150 film festivals around the world through the year and supports sales of films through subdistributors. The library also holds an extensive collection of films on VHS and DVD for loan. The library contains a small collection of core books but, by arrangement with the British Film Institute, students have access to the BFI Reference Library, which is within ten minutes walk.

It is run by Chrissy Bright who keeps and documents the school's productions, producing video copies and, for certain films, showprints.

Chrissy is also the Festival Co-ordinator (60-80 festivals every year), Film Sales & Distribution Officer, Post-Production Manager and Counsellor for the School.

Coffee Bar
The school has a privately-run coffee bar on the ground floor.

Clubs and Societies
Our clubs and societies include the Film Society who organise regular screenings and masterclasses. The LFS football team arranges matches against other universities and film schools. Students are admitted free to many of the film programmes at the National Film Theatre. LFS is a full member of CILECT, (Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision), the international confederation of film schools; AMPE, (Association of Media Practice Educators) and NAHEMI (National Association for Higher Education in the Moving Image), the national confederations of British film schools.

Disabled Access
The School welcomes applications from disabled people including those with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. While we cannot claim to have all the facilities and services that will meet each need for students undertaking our MA Filmmaking or MA Screenwriting programme, we will endeavour to remove barriers to access and to success in post graduate film education for disabled people.
